The Howard 2012 Update

Who is going to win the coveted Howard statistical category for the 2012 season?  If I were a betting man, I'd bet on a Baltimore Orioles player.  If I were a betting man, I'd also take a look at these Sport betting sites predictions.

The Howard- anytime a player hits a homerun, strikes out, and commits an error in the same game.

Loving named after the Philadelphia Phillies sometimes slugging, sometimes whiffing, error prone first baseman.  Brought to you by the brilliant minds of We Should Be GMs.

    Andruw Jones- Hitter of Homeruns

Since 2009 Andruw Jones has hit 61 homeruns.  Not very impressive.  However, consider he is no longer a full-time player and that 30% of his hits have been of the round-trip variety, and suddenly that's not too shabby.

Over the past 4 seasons, Jones has played for the Rangers, White Sox, and Yankees (all hitter's parks).  He's collected 203 hits, while clubbing 61 HR and has knocked in 149 runs.  Although his batting average has not eclipsed .247, his OPS remains in the near the mid .800's because of his power stroke.  In fact, of his 203 hits, 104 have gone for extra bases (51%).

Andruw Jones may not be the elite outfielder he once was, but he certainly makes his base hits count these days.

    Oakland Bombers: Moss & Carter

Don't look now, but the Oakland Athletics are 46-43 and have been getting solid pitching all season long and recently some offense too.  A big reason for the offensive outburst is the longball, and two guys knocking their fair share of homeruns are Brandon Moss and Chris Carter.  Both are considered "washed-up" prospects that never panned out, but are producing now that they're being giving a new life in the City by the Bay.

In 27 games, Moss has 11 HR and 19 RBI.
In 9 games, Carter has 5 HR and 9 RBI.

    Combined stats: 36 G, .276 AVG (32-116),  27 R, 5 DBL, 16 HR, 28 RBI, 1.077 OPS.

Small sample sizes for sure, but great results nonetheless.
