Was he safe or was he out???

Nothing to judge, he was clearly out and it wasn't even close. That's one of the worst calls I've ever seen and in such a critical spot. Ump should be fired or at least fined and suspended.

If it wasn't the last out of a perfect game, would you still want him fired? Do you actually watch baseball? Plays like this happen every day. If you fired every umpire that makes a wrong call on a play like this, there would be no umpires left. That's a really stupid and ignorant thing to say.

I watch baseball all the time. And the call was so blantantly missed that his body of umpiring should be examined with possible termination. Balls and strikes are one thing, or bang-bang plays at a base, but this guy was out by a good 3-4 feet for crying out loud!

he's been a good umpire. no way should be fired.

Alright, I'm backtracking. Joyce has become an unfair scapegoat. His one bad call is just one of many bad calls that seem to be littering baseball over the past years. He shouldn't be fired, that was reactionary, but I am in favor of umpires being evaluated by some sort of system, and I don't just mean a players vote.

On this particular play it appears Jason Donald is out by a few feet, but when broken down in slow motion you can see Galarraga's foot was hovering and ball was jostling in his glove, hence making it a closer play.
