Prince Fielder has only been a part of baseball for four years, but he has already secured himself a place in the record books. In 2007, he joined a very elite group of 50+ home runs in a single season (one that also includes his father, Cecil). In his brief tenure with the Majors, Fielder has also picked up two All Star awards, a Silver Slugger, the Hank Aaron Award, and has twice been considered for MVP. His fielding stats are on par with Loney, Teixeira, and Gonzalez. At 25, he has many more years of of potential growth ahead of him.
There is no denying that Fielder is good, but he isn't great. His overall play is only slightly above average. He is an inconsistent defending first. Fielder has also alienated his teammates and fans. He is an entertainer, brimming with excessive celebratory displays, or barely-contained rage. Whether it is being suspended for cursing out an umpire, pushing around his own teammates, or trying to charge another team after a game, Fielder's exuberance does not match his talent.
Whether you like or dislike Prince Fielder, there is one thing that cannot be denied - his middle name is Semien...
