Sometimes I think Major League Baseball wants to see nothing more than the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox succeed, and now I am convinced. Watching last night's ESPN Wednesday night featured game between the Angels and BoSox was a disgrace. Brian Fuentes, who happens to be one of my fantasy league closers and we're in the first week of the playoffs, got the blown save and the loss, but it should have never happened. Fuentes loaded the bases with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and ran a full count on Nick Green and seemingly struck him out to end the game on a perfect pitch in the middle of the plate right above the knees. The ass-faced homeplate umpire, Rick Reed, called it a ball though and Fuentes walked a run in. One batter later, Alex Gonzalez dumped a bloop into leftfield for the walkoff victory. Brian Fuentes line should have been 1 ip, 2 h, 1 bb, 1 k, 1 sv, 0 er. However, because of a blown call it ended up being .2 ip, 3 h, 2 bb, 0 k, 2 er. I'm filing a formal grievance with MLB to dispute this lousy umpire's call and to change my fantasy stats. K-Zone even showed the pitch stayed in the yellow strikezone box the entire time...gotta love technology. Rick Reed is bullshit!
