Good Beer, No Shit

From time to time, More Hardball will be featuring our favorite beers. After all, there's nothing more American than tossing back a few while watching a game, or grilling, or washing dishes, or whatever. Beer is good, but we're on a quest to move beyond the Buds and Millers of the beer world and into the less commercial beers out there. There are breweries all over the world producing some very fine alcoholic beverages. Today, the focus is on Flying Dog Brewery, which, in my opinion, is making some of the best beer in the country.

Flying Dog Brewery is based in Denver, Colorado and has another brewery located in Fredrick, Maryland. It was founded by artist, educator, and activist George Stranahan, who later teamed up with renegade "gonzo" journalist Hunter S. Thompson (of Fear and Loathing fame) and artist Ralph Steadman. Currently, they offer six types of well crafted beers, and release specialty seasonal beers.

Road Dog Porter: A dark and malty ale that goes great with anything. Easily my favorite beer.
In Heat Wheat Hefeweizen: A smooth malty white wheat beer, tastes best with fish, chickens and salads.
Tire Bite Golden Ale: A perfect light and hoppy beer for the summer.
Snake Dog India Pale Ale: The best IPA on the market. This medium hoppy beer goes great with steaks and burgers.
Old Scratch Amber Lager: The perfect blend of light and dark, malty and hoppy. The spicier the food, the better this beer tastes.
Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale: Like barbeque? This amber beer goes great with lighter meats.
