Clay Pflibson Zavada is a 24 year old lefty in the Arizona Diamondback's bullpen. In 12 games he's gone 11.1 innings, allowing only 7 hits and 3 walks, for a 0.00 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. He's registered 12 strikeouts, 1 win, and 3 holds. Those are some awesome stats even for the most seasoned of relief pitchers let alone some funny named rookie. Well, this greenhorn doesn't only own a peculiar moniker, he also has the finest groomed mustache in all of baseball. With facial hair and numbers like that, he's sure to become a fan favorite. He's already a More Hardball favorite.

A 24 year old rookie rocking a stache like that is ballsy, and I admire it.
The kid can pitch too. His time up here looks good, but wait til you get a load of his minor league numbers. He was born to be a closer.

We're going to be doing a new "Name to Know" probably weekly now.
One of my co-workers went to school with this guy and played college ball with him. Read up on him and you'll find that he also has some character and guts. This guy has had a tough luck story. He's had to work hard to get where he is after dropping out of baseball altogether a while back.
Saw he played independent ball. He dominated the whole through the minors, but was completely under the radar in terms of prospect status with no hype.
I went to school with Clay through grade School and High school and partially college. However never had the pleasure of actually playing ball with him(i was a football kid). He's a wonderful friend and a person that puts himself out there for others. I'm glad he is getting recognized and is playing well in the leagues. he has a compelling back story and I hope that no one more then him does well and stays up in the majors. p.s. the stories i would like to tell you about the kid, but i'm not going to say anything i think other people may not consider "fun". best of luck to him
